Unit 8 Reflection

I have been maintaining daily practice of loving-kindness and meditation. These two types of psychospiritual healing have proven most effective for me.  Sending loving-kindness to others and to myself has been incredibly helpful in obtaining a positive light in my life.  Conflict resolution is done with ease and grace without residual ill feelings.  I have been practicing this since it was introduced earlier in the course and has increased my levels of empathy towards others.  I have passed out the Mp3's of both loving-kindness and meditation to my patients and co-workers for them to integrate both into their lives.

A patient came to me the other day and when asked if there was anything further I could help him with, he mentioned that his finances were troubling him and wondered if I could help him with that.  I respectfully told him that finances was out of my scope of practice but I was able to help the way he responded to the stress associated with his finance issues. I gave him the Mp3's and instructed him to take the time to familiarize himself with it.  He called recently to tell me that he has changed his thinking and is starting to feel more relaxed and calm. Excellent for him!

Keep on keepin' on!

  1. That is excellent to hear, and it's wonderful that you are the tool that is spreading the goodness to more people. What kind of practice are you apart of? I am proud of you that you have incorporated Loving Kindness into your everyday life. I am dealing with a lot of different factors in my own life, but plan to keep this Human Flourishing book as a tool for the rest of my life.

  2. Hi Stevi,

I am glad to hear that the loving-kindness is benefiting you. I think it is a great concept but I had trouble with it when I thought of certain people and, consequently, am still working on it.

I work with psyche patients and these concepts have really helped me deal with the stress and frustration. it also helps me give better advice to the patients when they are having certain problems. I am glad to hear that you have been able to use them to help other too!

  3. Stevi, I too love the Loving Kindness exercise. I really think that it helps me on so many levels. Meditation can be an amazing thing if you can get your mind to shut off. I have a hard time with this, but am finding it is getting easier over time! This class has really opened my eyes and my mind!

  4. Stevi I also love the loving-kindness exercise.. I have been trying to implement it into my own life daily. Some days are easier than others thats for sure. I feel like I am sypathetic and empathetic to people but then again I have a hard time letting some things go and I know that is not loving.. So I'm working on it. That is amazing that you are helping people by showing them how to help themselves.

  5. Hello Stevi, I agree not only with your post but as loving-kindness should be utlized everyday life for all of us. Many people are troubled by difficult emotional states in the pressured societies we live in, but do little in terms of developing skills to deal with them.Reflecting on the positive qualities of a person and the acts of kindness they have done. And to yourself, making an affirmation, a positive statement about yourself & helping people in life as you've shown is great, continue keeping that open heart in life.

  6. Great to know you're implementing the information obtained from class, Stevi. That's the ultimate reason we're taking this course. These practices have been proven to to produce substantial changes in people's attitude toward life. You've just provided more evidence of that.

    Kudos to you!
